States and local governments decide whether to open or close a beach. They report that information to EPA, but because they vary in how quickly they send it to us, we don't always have real-time reports. You can find the latest information states have sent us in the EPA Beach Advisory and Closing On-line Notification (BEACON) system.

If BEACON doesn't have up-to-date information, please find your state's contact person by selecting your state on the map or scrolling down to the list below. If you'd prefer, you can also get contact information for your regional EPA office.
