Water: Uniform National Discharge Standards (UNDS)
Uniform National Discharge Standards (UNDS)
United States (U.S.) Armed Forces vessels operate nationwide in coastal and inland waters. Because they may enter waters of more than one state in their normal operations, these vessels would be subject to different environmental requirements for their discharges, depending upon vessel location. The UNDS program establishes national standards for these vessels.
UNDS will ensure that the U.S. Armed Forces vessels can continue to meet operational requirements and these national standards will reduce the environmental impacts associated with these discharges, stimulate the development of improved pollution control devices, and advance the development of environmentally sound military vessels.
