Water: Monitoring & Assessment

Minnesota Wetland Bioassessment Projects

Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Wetland Bioassessment Program
Minnesota has been developing their wetland biological assessment program since 1992. The program involves development of wetland assessment methods by studying vegetation and invertebrates in wetlands across a range of human disturbance. They have developed two separate Indexes of Biological Integrity (IBI) for Minnesota depressional wetlands.
Dakota County Volunteer Monitoring Program
Dakota County is partnering with MPCA to train volunteers to complete sampling and wetland assessments. Volunteers learn methods; quality assurance protocols; and how to identify plants, insects, and other animals living in the wetlands.
