Water: CWA Methods

Notice of Data Availability for the Methods Update Rule

Fact Sheet; February 2005

We are soliciting comment on new information regarding the proposed approvals and withdrawals of analytical methods for wastewater and drinking water, three updated versions of analytical methods proposed for approval, and evaluations of immunoassay test kits for atrazine.

On April 6, 2004, we proposed to approve a number of new analytical methods for measuring pollutants in wastewater and drinking water, and to withdraw approval of Syngenta Method AG-625 for determination of atrazine by immunoassay (69 FR 18166). In response to these proposals, we received data, including references to journal articles and study reports, on analytical method performance and cost. We also received three revised versions of proposed analytical methods after the proposal was published. These versions are similar to the proposed versions, but contain some revisions to quality control and procedural requirements.

In addition, our Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program recently completed evaluations of immunoassay test kits for measuring atrazine. These evaluations could have an impact on our proposed withdrawal of Syngeta Method AG-625.

Summary of new data

This notice announces the availability of data received in response to the proposal, three revised versions of proposed methods, and our evaluations of atrazine immunoassay kits. We are soliciting comment for 30 days only on the new information. We are not reopening the comment period on other aspects of the April 6, 2004, proposal.
