Program/Project Management
- General Management Resources
- EPA Resources for Nonprofit Organizations - This web page lists EPA's resources on topics ranging from communities at work to getting informed to laws and regulations. It is an excellent starting point for any watershed organization.
- Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits
- MAP's mission is to guide nonprofits toward better management. This site contains a free online library, training classes, and much more. Some of their free library resources include the following:
- National Center for Nonprofit Boards
- The National Center for Nonprofit Boards is dedicated to increasing the effectiveness of nonprofit organizations by strengthening their boards of directors. They offer publications and workshops.
- Specific Program Management Resources
- Information technology
- Better Assessment Science Integrating Point and Nonpoint Sources (BASINS) - BASINS integrates a geographic information system (GIS), national watershed data, and state-of-the-art environmental assessment and modeling tools into one convenient package.
- Cornell Mixing Zone Expert System (CORMIX) - CORMIX can be used for the analysis, prediction, and design of aqueous toxic or conventional pollutant discharges into diverse waterbodies.
- Dynamic Toxic Wasteload Allocation Model (DYNTOX) - This tool assesses the impact of toxic discharges on receiving water quality over the entire range of historical and future conditions. DYNTOX is both a steady-state and dynamic wasteload allocation model.
- Hydrological Simulation Program - FORTRAN (HSPF) is a comprehensive package for simulation of watershed hydrology and water quality for both conventional and toxic organic pollutants.
- Land Use and Land Cover Digital Data [BROKEN]
- This site explains land cover digital data and its applications, categories of data, and formats. - River and Streamwater Quality Model (QUAL2K) - This model is intended to be used as a water quality planning tool for developing Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and also can be used in conjunction with field sampling for identifying the magnitude and quality characteristics of nonpoint sources. This model is the successor to the QUAL2E model.
- Habitat conservation
- Habitat Conservation Guidebook
- The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service developed this handbook to guide planners in developing Habitat Conservation Plans under the Endangered Species Act.

- State and EPA Regional Nonpoint Source Pollution Programs
Clicking on a circled number will take you to the EPA Regional nonpoint source program page, and clicking on a state will take you to that state's nonpoint source program page. Not all states and Regions have specific nonpoint source program pages -- in those cases, you will be linked to a more general water page.
