Water: Polluted Runoff

Guidance in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed: Agriculture

The most effective practices to reduce pollution inputs of nutrients to the Chesapeake Bay focus around controlling the rate, timing, method and form of nutrient application. This guidance presents the implementation measures component of NMPs that would maximize reductions by agriculture. Three types of practices are necessary in agricultural production to control nutrients and sediments; through these types of practices, the path of nutrients and sediment can be controlled. These three types avoid, control, and trap pollutants (ACT), and practices that suit each should be implemented in agricultural production.
