Training Description: The objective of this 3-day workshop series is to instruct staff and leaders on how best to operate, troubleshoot, and maintain small wastewater and drinking water systems. Topics covered will include:
- Operator and management roles and responsibilities
- Wastewater system operation and maintenance (O&M)
- Water system O&M
- Developing rate structures to support utility operations
- Asset management to ensure system longevity
Case studies and exercises will be used to build on classroom skills. Please join U.S. EPA for an informal and informative workshop designed to help you operate your system safely and effectively.
Audience
Target Audience: Water system operators, wastewater system operators, tribal utility
managers, tribal council members and leaders involved with water utility
management and members of a Federally Recognized Tribe, Alaskan Native Village or Territory.

Are there any pre-requisites for this event?: No, other than participants must be from, or a part of, a Federally recognized tribe, Alaskan Native Village or US territory.
Is there any pre-course preparation associated with this event?: No, however, due to CEU requirements, a pre-test will be conducted during the morning of the first day.
Logistics
Sleeping room accommodations: Travel, hotel, and per diem costs for attendees from Tribal reservations may be covered by the local Indian Health Service (IHS) Area office. Please contact your local IHS office to learn more.
Other costs paid by EPA: None
Other relevant notes: All attendees are scheduled to receive copies of the California State University Office of Water Program's small wastewater and water system operation and maintenance guidebooks. In addition, EPA is applying for continuing education units for operator licenses.
