Big Branch Surface Mine

On April 28, 2009, EPA Region IV initiated a 404(c) review of the proposed Big Branch Surface Mine in Pike County, Kentucky. EPA took this step because it is concerned that the proposed project could result in unacceptable adverse effects on fish and wildlife resources. EPA and the project proponent are currently discussing options the project proponent might reasonably pursue to address EPA’s concerns.
